Silk vs. Cotton Pillowcases

Exploring the benefits of silk pillowcases over traditional cotton

Our beautiful 100% Mulberry Silk pillowcases offer a range of benefits when compared to more traditional cotton pillowcases.

Beauty Benefits

In contrast to traditional materials such as cotton, which offer no beauty benefits, there are a number of different benefits offered by silk pillowcases. The tightly woven nature of silk aids in moisture retention in the skin, which helps to maintain a glowing complexion when you wake up. In addition, silk is naturally smoother than other materials which causes less friction as you sleep, and can banish the 'bed head' for good! Finally, the silky smooth nature of the material decreases pulling on the skin, which can help to limit the appearance of fine lines.

Silk is a much stronger material than cotton - it's tensile strength is equal to that of steel! In addition, each strand of silk is typically four to eight silk thread filaments twisted together, adding to the natural strength of the material. These properties of this material mean that silk products - including pillowcases - have remakable durability. Silk is the finest and most luxurious material available for bed linen, and even the highest thread count cotton pillowcase will not have the luxury feel of a silk pillowcase. It is so luxurious that when first discovered in approximately 4,000 BC, it was kept a state secret within China for thousands of years. Following the opening of the Silk Road, silk trade spread throughout the world and is still considered to be a luxury material of the highest quality. All of our products are made from 100% long-strand Mulberry silk, and our pillowcases can also boast a thread count of 400 and a momme weight of 19.

Organic/Ethically Sourced

At Silksleep we are proud to say that all of our silk is harvested from small, family-run farms which ensure a fair wage to the farmers. In addition, we do not use any chemicals during the manufature of our products. This means that our entire range is 'organic' and boasts the full natural features of silk, such as being naturally hypoallergenic and breathable.
